Animal Aid of Branch County

Animal Aid of Branch County

Here at the Care Center Hospital we are unable to "take-in" found/lost animals or animals that need to be re-homed. However, we do work closely with Animal Aid of Branch County, AABC through medical care. AABC is a volunteer based rescue group, helping to re-home animals in need in the Branch County area.

View adoptable animals, adoption forms and ways to help on the Animal Aid of Branch County website www.animalaidofbranchcounty.com

*** If you have found an animal you must contact Animal Control. Per State Law, stray animals must be held for 4 Business Days to give the owner a chance to reclaim them. Branch County Animal Control: 517-639-3210 ***

It is against Michigan State Law to dump an animal anywhere in the State of Michigan including at an Animal Shelter after it is closed

5. Don't Stop looking!

What to do if you've found a lost pet...

1. Contact Animal Control : 517-639-3210
They must be contacted, even if you feel like you would like to keep the pet if no one comes forward. Someone is missing their pet and..... It's the law! If no one comes forward, only then are you are able to keep the found dog or cat after the end of the holding period.

2. Take the pet to a vet clinic or animal shelter to check for a microchip.
Microchips can be entered into the AHAA website to get more information www.petmicrochiplookup.org

3. If there was no microchip:
  • If you are unable to foster the pet for a short period until the owner is found, the best option for the pet is to be surrendered to the animal shelter in the area where the pet was found. These groups have several resources to help find the owners of the pet. If they are unable to find the owner, they are also the best people to help the pet get medical treatment (spay/neuter, vaccines, microchips) and a new home. If you're on vacation, do not take the pet back home with you. The owners will be looking locally.
  • If you are able to foster the lost pet you will want to use local and online resources to find the owner by posting information about the lost pet. Most owners who have lost a pet will be contacting the shelters and rescue groups as well as searching local postings on facebook. Make sure to give out just enough information for someone to recognize their pet, but it's best to leave out a detail that you could ask someone coming forward. This will help make sure it is in fact the true owner. Again, it is very important the pet stays local, if your on vacation don't take the pet back to your home town.
